Freedom & Renewal: A Positive Vision for America
As we move forward into a new era of American history, it’s time to reaffirm our values, restate our priorities as a nation, and recreate our government so that it works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
For too long, Trump and the Republicans have been decimating the federal government, leaving behind a trail of destruction and inequality. But this moment of crisis presents us with an opportunity to rebuild a new America, one that is more just, equitable, and sustainable.
Economic Empowerment
We believe that every American deserves a fair shot at success. That’s why we are committed to the following:
-
- Implementing a progressive tax system that ensures corporations and high-net-worth individuals contribute their fair share, including eliminating the income cap on Social Security taxes, so that the wealthy pay their fair share.
-
- Establishing a living wage standard, indexed to inflation and economic productivity, to ensure that all workers earn a decent income to support themselves and their families so they can thrive and not merely survive.
-
- A national minimum wage ensures that all workers, regardless of location, receive a comparable base wage, reducing income inequality and providing a basic standard of living for all workers.
-
- A unified minimum wage prevents states from engaging in “wage wars,” where they compete to attract businesses by lowering wages, which leads to instability and negative consequences for workers and communities.
-
- Establishing a living wage standard, indexed to inflation and economic productivity, to ensure that all workers earn a decent income to support themselves and their families so they can thrive and not merely survive.
-
- Strengthening labor laws to protect workers’ rights, including the right to collective bargaining, safe working conditions, and equal pay for equal work.
-
- Strengthening civil rights laws against employment discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability using a disparate impact standard.
Protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid
Every person deserves essential health care and financial security, regardless of age or income level. We are committed to the following:
-
- Strengthening Social Security by increasing funding, adjusting the cost of living formula, and ensuring that all workers contribute their fair share.
-
- Increasing Social Security funding by requiring the wealthy to pay the same share of their income into the system that everyone else pays, and by expanding the definition of income to include nonwage income such as rent, interest, dividends, and capital gains.
-
- Defending Medicare against attempts to privatize or dismantle it and working to improve its services and coverage for all beneficiaries. We will lobby to eliminate the profit motive from Medicare by eliminating Medicare Advantage.
-
- Expanding Medicaid to cover more low-income individuals and families and ensure that all states provide adequate funding for the program. And we will secure coverage for mental health, dental, vision, hearing, and transgender care.
Fixing America’s Broken Health Care System
The United States is facing a health care crisis that affects millions of Americans. With skyrocketing costs, lack of access to quality care, and persistent health disparities, it’s clear that our current system is not working for everyone.
To address these challenges, we need to take these bold actions to reform our health care system and ensure that every American has access to affordable, high quality care:
-
- Expand access to affordable and quality health care for all Americans through programs like Medicaid, Medicare buy-in options, and a public option.
-
- Protect and strengthen the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
-
- Lower prescription drug costs by allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices, cap insulin co-pays, and implement other policies to make prescription drugs more affordable.
-
- Explore a single-payer system where all Americans are enrolled in a government-run health insurance plan.
-
- Reduce premiums and co-payments, address the cost of care for low-income individuals and families, and make health care more affordable for all Americans.
-
- Address the specific health care needs of seniors, women, and other marginalized communities.
Addressing the Maternal Mortality Crisis
The maternal mortality crisis in the United States is a pressing issue that disproportionately affects Black women. To address this crisis, we need to take comprehensive action through legislative efforts and initiatives:
-
- Pass legislation like the Momnibus Act, which aims to address all aspects of maternal mortality and morbidity.
-
- Implement policies that address the racial disparities in maternal health care, including increasing access to prenatal care and addressing implicit bias in medical treatment.
By taking these steps, we can create a health care system that works for every American, regardless of their income, race, or ZIP code.
Reproductive Freedom
We believe that every individual has the right to make their own reproductive choices. We are committed to the following policies:
-
- Ensuring access to safe, affordable, and legal abortion services (and ALL types of reproductive health care services) regardless of income, social status, or the religious affiliation of the health care provider.
-
- Implementing comprehensive sex education programs that provide accurate information about reproductive health, consent, and healthy relationships.
-
- Expanding access to affordable birth control options, including emergency contraception and long-acting reversible contraceptives.
Day Care Solutions
We believe that every child deserves access to high quality early education. We are committed to these initiatives:
-
- Increase funding for affordable child care programs, including subsidies for low-income families and sliding scale fees for middle class families.
-
- Implement universal pre-K programs that provide high quality early education to all children, regardless of income or social status.
Public Education
We believe that every person deserves access to a high quality public education regardless of their background or ZIP code. We will transform our education system and ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed by making the following commitments:
-
- Providing fair compensation and safe working conditions for all educators so they can focus on what matters most: teaching and supporting our children.
-
- Investing in community schools that provide on-site health and social services to students and families to ensure that every child has access to the resources they need to thrive.
-
- Expanding career and technical education programs, including job training partnerships involving high schools, local businesses, and labor unions to ensure that every student has access to a path that leads to a good-paying job or further education.
-
- Ensuring that accurate American history is taught in our schools, including the contributions and experiences of diverse communities. This extends to teaching about the struggles and triumphs of diverse communities as well as their contributions to the development of our country.
Making Higher Education More Affordable
-
- Making community college tuition-free through federal/state partnerships or specific legislation like the America’s College Promise Act.
-
- Doubling the Pell Grant, a need-based grant for low-income students, to provide more financial assistance for college.
-
- Capping interest rates on new federal student loans to make repayment more affordable.
-
- Passing legislation like the Aim Higher Act, which focuses on protecting students and taxpayers from predatory for-profit colleges and low-quality programs, and modernizing the system for measuring school performance.
By implementing these changes, we can create an education system that is truly equitable and just for all students.
Paid Family Leave
We believe that every person deserves time to care for their loved ones. We are committed to these policies:
-
- Establishing a universal paid family leave program that provides all workers with 12 weeks of paid leave for caregiving responsibilities, including maternity and paternity leave.
-
- Promoting flexible work arrangements such as telecommuting and flexible hours to support caregivers and working families.
The facts are clear: paid family leave policies have been linked to increased birth rates, particularly for later births and among certain demographic groups. Studies suggest that paid leave can encourage women to have children earlier, potentially leading to a higher number of births overall.
Affordable Housing
We believe in an affordable housing plan to empower everyday people. Every individual deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. We are committed to policies that will do the following:
-
- Establish rent control measures to prevent exorbitant rent increases and ensure that housing is affordable for low- and middle-income families.
-
- Expand rental assistance and bolster the Housing Trust Fund to support all individuals eligible for help.
-
- Strengthen civil rights laws against de facto segregation and housing discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.
-
- Increase affordable housing stock by expanding community development programs and removing discriminatory zoning policies.
-
- Strengthening the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit to make homeownership a reality for more families.
-
- Increasing funding for fair housing initiatives to address discrimination and ensure equal access to affordable housing.
Stop the Corporate Takeover of Our Neighborhoods
We believe that every person deserves access to affordable housing. We are committed to policies that will accomplish this goal:
-
- Strengthening tenant protections to prevent corporate landlords from evicting tenants without just cause or sufficient time to secure new housing.
-
- Establishing community land trusts (CLTs) to preserve affordable housing and prevent corporate speculation.
-
- Imposing strict limits on the number of properties that can be owned by individuals, LLCs, corporations, and foreign investors/speculators.
-
- Prohibiting the use of shell companies to evade real estate transfer taxes.
Addressing Homelessness
Homelessness is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted solution. To effectively address this problem, we must tackle its root causes. These are the key strategies:
-
- Implement policies to increase the minimum wage, provide job training programs, and offer financial assistance to low-income individuals that will lead to economic growth.
-
- Increase funding for affordable housing programs, implement rent control measures, and incentivize developers to build affordable units.
-
- Expand mental health services, provide counseling and therapy, and offer support groups for individuals struggling with mental health conditions.
-
- Offer trauma-informed care, provide access to mental health services, and create support groups for individuals who have experienced trauma.
-
- Address systemic racism, increase diversity and inclusion initiatives, and provide equal access to opportunities for people of color.
-
- Provide supportive services such as mental health counseling, job training, and education assistance to help individuals and families overcome homelessness.
Combating Food Insecurity
We believe that every person deserves access to nutritious food regardless of income level or social status. We will make these changes:
-
- Expand SNAP benefits to cover more low-income persons and families, and ensure that all states provide adequate funding for the program.
-
- Support local food systems by increasing funding for programs that promote sustainable agriculture practices and provide access to fresh produce in underserved communities.
-
- Reduce food waste by implementing initiatives that encourage food recovery, redistribution, and recycling.
These policies aim to address the systemic issues affecting everyday people and promote economic empowerment, social justice, and environmental protection. By fighting for these policies, we can create a more equitable society where every person has access to opportunities and resources needed to thrive.
Environmental Protection
Our planet is worth protecting. We will implement the following initiatives:
-
- Invest in renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change:
-
- Lower long-term costs: renewable energy sources, like solar and wind, have minimal ongoing fuel costs after the initial investment. Fossil fuels, on the other hand, require continuous fuel extraction, transportation, and refining, which contributes to higher ongoing costs.
-
- Increase awareness of the falling costs of renewables: the cost of renewable energy technologies, particularly solar and wind, has plummeted in recent years due to advancements in technology and economies of scale. For example, the cost of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules has fallen dramatically.
-
- Invest in renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate climate change:
-
- Protect and preserve clean water sources by enforcing strict regulations on
polluters and investing in water infrastructure.
- Protect and preserve clean water sources by enforcing strict regulations on
-
- Implement conservation efforts to protect and restore natural habitats, preserving biodiversity and promoting ecosystem health.
-
- Combat climate catastrophe by shifting a portion of defense and nuclear weapons research funding toward protecting the planet from global warming.
-
- Abolish corporate welfare including, but not limited to, federally funded taxpayer subsidies to fossil fuel companies.
-
- Reaffirm the United States’ commitment to the Paris Agreement of 2015. However, given the increased severity of the global climate crisis in 2025, we will also enact new legislation and launch a comprehensive national program to combat climate change.
The current administration’s executive orders, guided by the GOP’s Project 2025, have dealt a devastating blow to established climate change programs.
To address these challenges, we must go beyond restoring the status quo and instead strive for transformative change. We are committed to the following initiatives:
-
- Key Agencies
-
- Department of Defense (DOD): Invest in climate resilience and reducing climate threats.
-
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA): Reopen regional climate centers, revise deep sea mining plans, and continue funding programs that protect communities from weather-related events.
-
- National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA): Maintain support for NOAA’s satellite development and operations.
-
- Department of Energy (DOE): Fully fund renewable energy growth initiatives and promote a diversified energy mix.
-
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): Re-establish restrictions on carbon dioxide emissions from power plants and vehicle emission standards.
-
- Key Agencies
-
- Multi-Agency Initiative
-
- Establish a comprehensive initiative to restore the Arctic region’s climate, addressing its alarming rate of warming.
-
- Multi-Agency Initiative
By taking these bold steps, we can transition from a state of climate crisis to one of climate resilience, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
Voting Rights
We believe that every individual has the right to participate in our democracy through voting. We are committed to these changes:
-
- Automatic Voter Registration: implementing automatic voter registration to increase voter participation and reduce barriers to voting.
-
- Discriminatory Voter ID laws: repealing discriminatory voter ID laws that disproportionately affect marginalized communities and ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to cast their ballot.
-
- Election security: investing in election security measures to protect the integrity of our democratic process, including implementing robust cybersecurity protocols and conducting regular audits.
Passing Comprehensive Voting Rights Legislation
We support passing comprehensive voting rights legislation:
-
- The John Lewis Voting Rights Act: restoring the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and strengthening protections against voter suppression.
-
- The Freedom to Vote Act: expanding voting access, improving election security, and promoting transparency in our democratic process.
-
- The Fair Maps initiative: ensuring that electoral districts are drawn fairly and without partisan bias and protecting the rights of marginalized communities.
By implementing these reforms, we can ensure that every individual has an equal opportunity to participate in our democracy, regardless of race, income, or social status.
Reforms for a Stronger Democracy
To achieve this vision, we propose these critical reforms:
-
- Overturning Citizens United to limit corporate and hidden influences in elections and ensure that decisions are made by individual voters, not special interest groups.
-
- Restoring regulatory powers by reinstating the Chevron doctrine to return deference to the regulatory powers of nonpartisan, civil service expertise in the executive agencies, allowing them to effectively protect consumers and workers.
-
- Requiring agency and commission political appointees and senior staff to include people with consumer protection and labor backgrounds, ensuring that regulations serve the public interest.
-
- Banning Congress from stock trading to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure that lawmakers prioritize the needs of their constituents.
-
- Transforming the Supreme Court by implementing term limits for justices, creating an enforceable ethics code, depoliticizing the Court, expanding its bandwidth, and promoting jurisdiction stripping to counter abuse of power.
-
- Ensuring that due process and the rule of law are followed in all matters regarding arrest, detention, imprisonment, and deportation.
-
- Providing fair compensation for congressional staff, empowering Congress to push back against executive branch excesses, and encouraging civic-minded individuals to work in government.
By adopting these reforms, we can create a stronger democracy that truly represents the needs and interests of all citizens.
Restoring Respect for the Constitution in the Executive Branch: A New Era of Accountability
To ensure that the executive branch operates within the bounds of the Constitution, we propose the following reforms:
-
- Prohibiting the president from unilaterally implementing federal funding freezes or reductions, dissolving entire federal agencies, or receiving financial rewards beyond their salary.
-
- Ensuring that inspectors general cannot be fired without cause, safeguarding their independence and ability to hold the administration accountable.
-
- Restricting the president’s pardon powers to prevent them from being used to shield individuals who have engaged in insurrection against the United States.
-
- Strengthening the guardrails between federal law enforcement, national security, oversight, regulatory agencies, and the presidency, ensuring their independence and autonomy.
-
- Requiring the president and Cabinet members to obey Supreme Court and federal court orders in a timely manner, upholding the rule of law.
-
- Protecting the First Amendment by preventing repeated slander against members of the press and ensuring access to regular presidential news briefings.
By implementing these reforms, we can restore respect for the Constitution in the executive branch and ensure that the government operates in a transparent, accountable, and democratic manner.
Immigration Reform
Our immigration system has been broken for far too long. We are committed to these policies to fix it:
-
- Securing the border by implementing humane and effective border security measures that prioritize the safety and dignity of asylum-seekers and migrants.
-
- Providing a clear pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who have contributed to our society and economy.
-
- Ensuring that all individuals, regardless of immigration status, have access to due process and fair treatment under the law.
-
- Creating a clear pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients.
Civil Rights
We believe that America’s diversity makes it stronger and that we must do more to protect civil and human rights:
-
- We believe that every individual has the right to love who they choose, without fear of persecution or discrimination. That’s why we are committed to ensuring that same-sex marriage is protected and respected.
-
- We recognize that systemic racism and sexism are still pervasive in our society, and it’s time to take action. We are dedicated to banning discrimination based on race, gender, or sexuality and creating a world where everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive.
-
- We are committed to protecting civil and human rights. For too long, communities of color have been marginalized and oppressed, including Black Americans. We will ensure that these communities receive the justice and equality they deserve.
-
- We believe that our country can be a beacon of hope and equality for all people. That’s why we are dedicated to lessening inequality in society through government action and creating a world where everyone has access to the same opportunities and resources.
Police Reform and Accountability
To build trust between law enforcement and our communities, we support the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. This legislation does the following:
-
- Makes it easier for the federal government to prosecute police misconduct cases and eliminates qualified immunity for law enforcement.
-
- Ends racial and religious profiling and bans the use of chokeholds and no-knock warrants at the federal level, encouraging states to follow suit.
-
- Empowers communities by allowing for meaningful accountability in cases of police brutality and promotes community-led initiatives.
Police Reform for Safer Communities
To improve policing practices and address community needs, we propose:
-
- Reforming policing practices: banning certain harmful practices, improving officer training, and increasing accountability for misconduct.
-
- Supporting community-led initiatives: focusing on addressing community needs and promoting positive relationships between law enforcement and the public.
Gun Reform: A Call to Action
The United States is facing a gun violence epidemic with devastating consequences for families and communities across the country. To address this crisis, we need to take bold action to reform our gun laws and promote public safety.
To address the gun violence epidemic in the United States, we propose the following policy initiatives:
-
- Restrict the sale, manufacture, and possession of assault weapons to prevent their use in mass shootings.
-
- Require background checks on all gun sales and transfers to ensure that firearms are kept out of the wrong hands.
-
- Allow temporary removal of firearms from individuals who pose a risk to themselves or others, based on a court order.
-
- Invest in programs that address the root causes of gun violence and help prevent future incidents.
-
- Fund research to understand the causes of gun violence and develop effective prevention strategies.
By implementing these policies, we can reduce gun violence and create safer communities for all Americans.
Foreign Policy: A New Era of Global Cooperation and Leadership
To address the complex challenges facing our world, we propose these foreign policy initiatives that prioritize cooperation, diplomacy, and respect for international law:
-
- Upholding international law:
-
- Respecting territorial integrity: the president should refrain from threatening allies with invasion or annexation.
-
- Strengthening NATO ties: the United States should strengthen its ties with NATO, avoid interfering in member-states’ internal politics, and commit to peace, territorial integrity, and NATO membership for Ukraine.
-
- Upholding international law:
-
- Addressing global challenges:
-
- Rejoining international institutions: the United States should rejoin the World Health Organization and reestablish USAID, the U.S. Institute of Peace, and the Agency of Global Media.

-
- Ratifying international treaties: the United States should ratify and sign major human rights treaties.
-
- Promoting human rights:
-
- Exercising fiscal responsibility:
-
- Responsible military spending: the military budget should be capped at 25% of total discretionary spending, ensuring that our national security priorities are balanced with other essential public investments.
-
- Audit accountability: to promote transparency and accountability, civil and/or financial penalties will be imposed on the Department of Defense for failure to pass an audit, incentivizing responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
-
- Exercising fiscal responsibility:
By adopting this approach, we can restore American leadership on the world stage and address the pressing global challenges of our time.
